Wake Up And Smell The Coffee!
Is our Western culture at war with Islam? Here is a question that sadly many today cannot answer for sure. Why are many of our media-elites and politicians in Europe as well as America unable to wake up and see something as clear as the noses on their faces? Why is there a total inability to distinguish between an attacked democracy (Israel) that seeks to protect itself from terrorist thugs and these same thugs who kill civilians? I am so glad you asked! It is because our western culture is steeped in a postmodern-cultural-relativism that cannot see the difference between what is right and what is wrong. One writer (Victor Davis Hanson) said, "Our present generation is on the brink of moral insanity." We don't have a moral compass. Just this past week John Dingell, Democratic Congressman from Michigan, said, "I don't take sides for or against Hezbollah." He can't take sides because he has no moral compass. Here is a U.S. congressman who cannot seperate right from wrong. Folks, smell the coffee! Let's remember a little history within my own lifetime.
At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, several Jewish athletes were murdered. In 1979, the U.S. Embassy in Tehran was take over and 52 hostages held for more than a year. In 1983, U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut were blown to bits killing 241 of our American troops. In 1988, Pan Am flight 103 was bombed, killing 270 people. In 1993, there was the first bombing of the World Trade Center--eight years later both of the Twin Towers were brought down killing over 3000 Americans. In 1998, the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were bombed, resulting in more than 200 dead and 4000 injured. OK class. It's quiz time. Who are the people responsible for these and other murders, including numberous beheadings? Answer: They were all Muslims.
Are all Muslims murderers? Absolutely not! But I have yet to hear any broad condemnation from the larger Muslim community against these wanton acts of murder. If anything I constantly see jubilation and dancing in the streets in the wake of Muslim attacks on Westerners. And when you contrast the above with the broad Western condemnation of a few coalition forces in Iraq's Abu Ghraib, you can see the West's inability to make moral distinctions.
It's a good thing that my hope is not in this world. It's not in our decaying political system nor is it in America's current superpower greatness. It's not even in a particular political party. You see, I have a hope that alltogether transcends this world. My hope is in the person of Jesus Christ. He is Creator, Lord, Savior, and the coming King of kings who will one day right all the wrongs and dry all the tears of those who trust in Him. The Bible makes in clear: "...there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). Are you trusting in Him alone? Only you know your own heart. May each of us be trusting in Christ alone for His abiding hope.
